MEET THE ARTIST
Chanda Burrage
Chanda Burrage is an Adjunct Lecturer at CUNY Medgar Evers College, where she teaches geography and research methods courses. Chanda, a native of Winston-Salem, has served as a biomedical engineering research assistant, social entrepreneur, and project manager for various initiatives. Most notably, Chanda has helped bring climate science lessons to rural and inner-city Pennsylvania schools, telemedicine to Kenya communities, and participatory research management within central Brooklyn. Chanda is completing geography and leadership doctoral studies at Penn State University and the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, respectively. She has also earned master’s degrees in international affairs from Penn State and biomedical engineering from Wayne State University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. With a desire to develop social STEM leadership in low-income communities of color,Chanda seeks to challenge broader social concerns around emerging technology. She envisions a world where communities of color are treated humanely rather than as disposable testing agents for development. Black Girl Beauty, is part of 52 Studio Arts- Nu Views 2023.
